Getting started

Before you will get started, please spend some time to read the following Instruction on how to configure the program settings properly. It is not difficult, and it takes about couple of minutes of your attention before you will be able to send an unlimited number of free text messages with no limitation on text characters. Since FastSMS III is sending SMS via SMTP protocol, you need to have a valid e-mail account with SMTP Server settings only. Consult your Net Administrator or e-mail provider.

 Open the program, go to Setup Menu screen then choose SMS Delivery Setup menu

Step 1: Uncheck  Lock the changes field  to start filling out all necessary parameters.

Step 2: In Nickname field, type your name or nick, or other identifying name.

Step 3: In e-mail server (SMTP) field, enter IP address or domain name of your mail account server, for instance 192.168.1.2 or smtp.someserver.com;

Step 4: In e-mail account input line, type your appropriate mail address, for example, mymail@someserver.com;

Step 5: In Use mail login field enter your mail Login, if your outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication for delivery. In that case FastSMS will ask to enter the password for your e-mail account on delivery.
If  SMTP server doesn't require authentication, leave Use mail login field blank.

Step 6: Message encoding (optional) - you can also change SMS text characters encoding, such as windows-1251 or koi-8. Consult your wireless provider to get information about this feature.
Keep this field blank, if you are not confident.
Buttons with "plus" and "minus" symbols let you to add encoding value to common list.

Step 7: Click Add/Change button to add and save your new configuration.

Note: To update any information you entered and saved before, you have to unlock "Lock the changes" field,  make your changes  in required fields, then click Add/Change button to save it.

You may add  and use as many e-mail accounts as you wish.

Need to know
If you want to send SMS, you have to know who is recipient’s wireless provider and what is SMS mail gateway.
Also, you need to know that your recipient has an active SMS service that supports SMS messages in order to receive the messages on his cellular phone from the Internet.
Refer to cellular provider's web site to find more or visit our Page with cellular providers list.
If you can not find your provider in that List, please

Add new provider
Go to Setup Menu screen then choose Cellular Providers List.
Then click Add button.
You will see a form, which you have to fill out with parameters.

 Parameters

Important parameters
Name
- the cellular provider's name.
Area - provider's network area code.
Gateway - mail gateway of provider.
Number in subject - if recipient's cellular e-mail address uses non-standard format.
Country - provider's territory location.

Informative parameters (Optional)
Region - provider's state or other territorial division.
URL
- provider's web site.
Hint
- your remarks.
Date
- date of your current provider configuration.

Additional configuration parameters
SMS length - is used to change standard SMS text  length to provider's specific one.
SWNS - propose an alternative, which allows you to send your SMS with no splitting, in other words completely at once, if the cellular provider allows receiving a text message with no limitations on characters.

Examples of Cellular Provider Configuration

Here you can find some useful examples, which will help you to configure your cellular provider.

In most cases cellular number consists of International Code (IC), Area Code (AC) and 7-digit number: IC AC XXX-XX-XX.
However, the recipient's mobile phone number may be less than 7-digit number.

If provider requires full number with IC and AC you must fill out the parameters like this:
Area = IC AC (w/o spaces);
Gateway = @pcs.rogers.com (for example, we use Rogers Wireless provider);
Number in subject - leave blank;

If provider requires only AC you must fill out the parameters like this:
Area = AC;
Gateway = @pcs.rogers.com (for example, we use Rogers Wireless provider);
Number in subject - leave blank;

If provider requires only 7-digit recipient's number you must fill out the parameters like this:
Area = leave blank;
Gateway = @pcs.rogers.com (for example, we use Rogers Wireless provider);
Number in subject - leave blank;

Note: Your recipient may have an option of using ether his cell phone number phonenumber@sms.someprovidergateway.com or his alias (nickname) alias@sms.someprovidergateway.com as his e-mail address.

If your recipient using his nick name instead of his phone number you may fill out the parameters like this:
Area = leave blank;
Gateway = @pcs.rogers.com (for example, we use Rogers Wireless provider);
Number in subject - leave blank;

If provider requires special format, when the number must be located in subject, set the option Number in subject - ON.

Click OK button to save.

Note: In  Send SMS  screen you only have to enter recipient's 7-digit number (or his nick name).

You can also send your text message to any e-mail!

How to send SMS to e-mail

You can send a message to any E-mail.
Go to Setup Menu screen then choose Cellular Provider s List.
Then click Add button.
You will see a form, which you have to fill out with parameters.

For example, you wish to send SMS to email "fastsms@simpleforce.net"
These parameters are:
Area = leave blank
Gateway = @simpleforce.net;
Number in subject - NO;
SWNS set ON

In Access Book enter user name of e-mail ("fastsms" in our example)
